		<description>

We’re expert problem solvers

From an early age, we’re encouraged to identify “What’s missing from this picture?”
By the time we’re adults if not sooner, figuring it out is a subroutine always percolating in the background.

It’s how we purchase, plan, and problem solve. It’s how we view ourselves, and how we view our relationships. All’vm.

Figure out what’s missing, find it, and install it. Rinse, and repeat. Even the minimalism movement could be interpreted as simplicity is what’s been left out.

How we view our relationships is no different. There is friction between myself and this other person because something is not here, either from them or from me.

But, here’s a question worth asking:

︎ What if nothing was ever truly missing?

Suffice it to say, relationships can feel complicated, and not just romantic ones. Friends and professional connections can be even more maddening in this regard.
Boundary violations, covert score-keeping, mounting resentments, and something that feels like gaslighting are just another Tuesday in too many of our lives.

One can quickly see the allure of a cabin in the woods or a thatched beach hut somewhere quiet. That would be the ideal place to finally nail this self-improvement thing.

For some of us, it’s not just one relationship that feels strained. Life can feel like one difficult relationship after another, walking on glass in this one, defending the walls in another, with you at the center.

The endless stream of battles can feel like it’s beyond your capacity.

As if matter couldn’t get worse, it can feel like the only way to keep some semblance of peace is to compromise so hard that we abandon ourselves in the process.

The sum total of all this can feel like, I’m the problem, and I just need to stop fighting.

Yeah, maybe.

But not by giving up, and not by starting a new self-improvement plan.

Men come to me when they’re navigating a difficult relationship, so they can show up fully in the relationships that matter without abandoning themselves in the process.

What men believe

Most men think the next breakthrough comes from becoming a better version of themselves.

I don't.

Too many of of us believe that the secret to relational harmony (and life itself) lies in discovering the one self improvement plan to end them all.

What I used to believe was that the secret to solving conflict is found in developing hacks and practices to control myself from escalating conflict. I believed that if I could just keep calm, I could weather any hurricane. That would solve it.

In 2013, I stopped drinking. Shortly after that, I took up meditation. Eventually, after a few years of practice, I went on a couple ten-day silent retreats. All of these choices were powerful choices that changed my relationship with others and myself.

None of those choices removed friction from my relationships, which is even more maddening after all that inner work.

Most hacks around how to control what triggers us only work part of the time.
They also start from an assumption that our all problems are because something is missing, that happiness is lies in figuring that out and filling the hole.

As such, I no longer believe in hacks or tactics. I don’t believe that what we need is out there somewhere, and I don’t believe that what really need is for others to change for us to find peace.

The necessary work that would prove this, starts with me, but it’s not something I need to do alone.
In fact, I take the position that doing the work with someone else is the most powerful way to do it.

What

we accomplish together

When I say I stand for you, I don’t mean the story you’re telling yourself about who you are.

What we are is something more complex, not complicated, and—as I see it—truer than the stories we tell.
Discovering that nuance, and learning to live in it is central to the work we do together.

Rather than identifying problems to solve, exploring them, and crafting action items that never happen or rarely change anything, I make an assumption:

︎ That which seems missing is already present.

That reveals the self that’s neither rigid nor soft. It asks for what it wants, and doesn’t begrudge the world to deliver. It notices feelings, and it will share them when contextually appropriate because it knows the difference.

Above all of that, it’s a self that’s more comfortable with discomfort and uncertainty, even when the intensity feels cranked to an eleven.
In a room filled to the ceiling with discomfort and uncertainty, this self can hold the space.

This is not really a new self.
It’s the one that was already here, folded up from view like how a sprout continues to reveal new structure from inside as it grows. This all happens unburdened by stories.

If you’re already curious, book a 30-minute convo with me.

What folks are saying

“When I first met Damon I wanted to work with him as my coach so that I could increase my performance and professional development...What I discovered through his coaching was that there were several areas of my life that I wasn't showing up the way I wanted to be. We've been working together for several months now and it's changed my life.
I'm more happier and fulfilled in the way my life is today and how I show up for the people I serve and support. I bring more intention into every single aspect of my life which has enabled me to deepen my relationship with my wife and my clients.” -Matthew Biggar“Working with Damon has been a real pleasure. He made the space feel open and safe, which allowed me to share the best and worst of things that I may have been struggling to cope with, get through, or even began. Damon has a great ear and does an excellent job of listening and then nudging you in the direction that is beneficial and most helpful to you. &#38;nbsp;
He’s not there to give you the answers...&#38;nbsp; He rather tosses ideas out there and lets you figure out which course of action is best for you. If he feels you’re getting off track, he has a unique way of bringing the focus back to what’s important.
His life experiences make him empathetic and understanding, and from my personal experience working with him, he has tremendous insight and gives such valuable advice.
He has helped me in so many a conundrum and difficult choices I’ve been dealt in my life.Damon is a great coach and he has your best interest at heart, always. &#38;nbsp;He’s never failed me in this regard. &#38;nbsp;Damon met all of my expectations and then some.”-Lee Wesley &#124; teacher, actor, coach

“Working with Damon shifted the way I relate to myself. During one of the hardest periods of my life, he helped me move beyond simply surviving. Through parts work, presence anchoring, and an entirely new model of authentic connection with other men, I learned to approach my thoughts and emotions with curiosity. That shift changed how I navigate conflict, parent my daughters, lead my business, and show up in every important relationship. It’s difficult to overstate the impact his guidance has had on the person I’m becoming.” -Josh

“Damon is a skilled professional coach that really takes the time to understand the obstacles that a person may be confronting. His superb active listening skills and empathetic approach make it very easy for a person that speaks with him and opens up. I would highly recommend Damon as a coach!” -Brian
“Damon has been coaching me for almost a year now and I have learned that he is also calm, disciplined, respectful, and compassionate... It feels like magic, sometimes hard magic, but defiantly magic. He has helped me reclaim the confidence I had lost, which then gave me the courage to be intentional and deeply authentic, which for me meant setting boundaries at work, seeking help on projects, honoring my needs, and, yes, sometimes accepting what is.”
-Steven
“On meeting Damon, I immediately felt at ease. His calm manner naturally encouraged our conversation. I expected him to fire questions at me left, right, and center, but rather, he led me through a discussion guided by my own intentions.“ -Kevin

“There’s a comfort in knowing that the next conversation with Damon is always on the horizon. Even when this moment feels insane and hard to navigate, I know I’ll land in this safe environment with him and explore these things, and then head back out into my life and to my relationships and to my leadership.

Whatever unfolds these next years for me—especially in my intimate relationships—I know that I’m way better off, and I have a lot more confidence that it will be a happy, fulfilling, intimate, connected experience because I have Damon in my corner. That’s really a huge gift to me.

The best peace of mind that I’m buying for myself is that I invest in coaching—and yes, therapy to work through the deeper stuff—but really I invest in our coaching. And that is what gives me a shot at having my next committed relationship that is more fulfilling and can last for a while and can handle more complexity—like having a family or running a company, all that stuff.

If I had to do it on my own, there’s so much more of a chance that it fails, that I have to spend years picking up the pieces again and try again.”-J.J.

How we work

Structurally, the container looks like this:
We start with an idea of where we’re trying to go, but it’s often less of a goal and more of a vector.
Goals are fine, and many clients come in asking to achieve goals, but in my experience they usually surrender those goals as we get into the work.

There’s more to it, but with this in hand we engage in conversation. We may talk about feelings if that’s what comes up, but my lane as a coach means I don’t diagnose, and I don’t work directly with complex traumas or diagnosable disorders.
That said, I have clients who also see a therapist, which I fully support.

At first, we’ll lay down the groundwork, which tends to ramp up over time. How quickly and how dramatically it ramps up, depends on the client.

From there, we can proceed with a more formal engagement.

The more we work together, the more I share about what’s available from the menu of my coaching skills. This way, clients can decide what they want, which helps adjust our vector.

There are no gotchas in my method, no intentional provocations to elicit difficult emotions, and no advice from on high.

︎ I’m nobody’s guru.

The conversation simply flows like the way birds move in large flocks, where the actions of one moves the other.

As of this writing, I don’t accept money or contracts without an initial period of conversations. That can be up to three sessions or sooner if someone feels like they get how it works.So. If you’re curious to know more, book time with me. Let’s find out if we’re a match.
